A Mountain of Anime Updates Landed During the Festive Season

The Christmas holidays present a plethora of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than scanning the updates: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on festive fare, and using deep breathing to avoid arguing with family members. It is wished you managed to enjoy all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling developments came out during the holidays, and just in case you missed a few, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Truly the most shocking announcement, the much-discussed disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man wasn't enough to stop further production. Season 3 will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the beginning, which might be a positive development. However, the key visual for the continuation is a mirror of the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, by now, they could be teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it debuted in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' appreciation and goodwill, and now everyone is overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works

Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been airing for some time, and its sixth season was another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio known for the artistic merit of its work, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Season Two

Right after the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was revealed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not yet been announced.
