HBO's It Spinoff Debuts Next Sooner Than Planned on HBO's Digital Service
Fans are eagerly awaiting for the horror series the Derry series, that's been receiving positive feedback and drawing from themes from the broader King universe. Just one day after launch, HBO declared that episode two will arrive early, timed perfectly for Halloween.
Schedule Change Information
Starting on the last day of October at 3 a.m. EST, the next part of the Derry prequel will launch on HBO Max, before its linear broadcast. The remaining installments of the show's first season will premiere on Sundays on both HBO and its streaming arm, leading up to the final episode on Sunday, December 14.
Storyline Summary
Taking place within the Derry mythology, the new series is inspired by the original story while expanding on the world realized by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in It and It Chapter Two. It Chapter One focused on adolescents confronting unimaginable horrors, making it appropriate that this show continues that tradition. However, the premiere episode of HBO’s Welcome to Derry proves it aimed to raise the stakes, offering heightened horror than the movies and creating a dark atmosphere for the upcoming episodes.
Story World and Concepts
Located in the early '60s, the program presents a fresh cast of parents and youngsters inhabiting a apparently peaceful community hiding a sinister core. Derry functions through a vicious, repeating pattern—defined by hostility, discrimination, and otherworldly forces, as a evil entity returns every 27 years. While the series might seem like it skews too close to the films on the surface, what distinguishes the HBO Max series is its parallel storytelling—narrated via the viewpoints of young and old concurrently. The kids remain particularly vulnerable to It's terror, but grown-ups aren’t spared confronting their individual fears stemming from the town's ingrained prejudice and lurking supernatural forces.
The series debuts on October 31 at midnight PT.
