The network's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Substantial Renewal for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often defined by cynicism, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The show follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Network Praise
In the same announcement commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about watching this charming family navigate their everyday routines.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
The Path Forward
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
